Canberra’s Own Science Film Festival – Space Faring Civilisation (SFC) Film Festival

Event

Imagine a bright future inspired by science and discovery.

The Canberra-grown Space Faring Civilisation (SFC) Film Festival returns for 2026, celebrating the incredible intersection of science, space, and optimistic storytelling through independent cinema.

Before the big-screen events, catch the team out in the community at major shopping centres for "Science in the Centres" during National Science Week. Drop by for free, hands-on animation workshops to get excited for National Science Week.

Then on Sunday at Dendy Cinemas Canberra, come along for a full day of inspiration. Ticket holders can kick off the morning with an exclusive, one-on-one filmmaking workshop. Time slots are strictly limited to 15 minutes each, giving you a dedicated opportunity to pitch ideas, get advice on how to get started, or receive expert project feedback.

The afternoon features a curated screening of spectacular short sci-fi, documentaries, and animations, followed by a thought-provoking keynote speech and a live audience Q&A panel. Conclude the day in the foyer with a social networking session to meet fellow filmmakers, students, and space/science enthusiasts.

Whether you are an aspiring astronaut, a local creative, or simply love a great story, come along and explore what the future holds.

Bookings are essential, so secure your tickets today!
