The Heroines

Event

National Opera's Heroines is a bold new project celebrating the power and depth of opera's most unforgettable women. Drawing on repertoire from across the operatic landscape, the production presents a carefully curated sequence of fully staged scenes that highlight the resilience, defiance, and sacrifice of these iconic characters.

From queens and lovers to outsiders and revolutionaries, each heroine embodies the struggle and triumph at the heart of opera. Through moments of passion, confrontation, and ultimate rebirth, audiences will witness the extraordinary emotional and dramatic range of women on the operatic stage.

Featuring Canberra's leading operatic voices and supported by the National Opera Chorus, the production blends individual artistry with the collective force of ensemble storytelling. The chorus amplifies each heroine's journey, underscoring both the grandeur and intimacy of these unforgettable stories.

Heroines is an operatic celebration of strength, courage, and renewal—a showcase of characters whose power, sacrifice, resilience, defiance, and rebirth continue to captivate and inspire audiences.
